For each of these, say where you would go: a mild fever, chest pain, a question about stress late at night. Then check against the source.

What the official module covers
Skills Pass names Health and Education in Malta as one of the first module's ten topics. Use your official course materials first; this page practises the rules behind it.
Getting the right health care
In an emergency, such as chest pain, signs of a stroke, severe breathing difficulty or someone unconscious, call 112. It is free from any mobile or landline. Give the exact location, say what has happened, and answer the operator's questions.
For mild symptoms, minor injuries and routine check-ups, go to your family doctor (GP) or a health centre. Floriana, Mosta and Paola Health Centres are open 24 hours a day.
For non-urgent advice by phone, the telemedicine lines are 2123 1231 and 2122 2444. The 1400 helpline, open day and night, helps people aged 16 to 75 who are entitled to free health care decide whether to go to the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital. It cannot prescribe medicine or give medical certificates. In an emergency, call 112 immediately.
For mental health support, call the 1579 supportline at any time.
School for your children
School is compulsory (required) in Malta from age 5 to 16. Children of people holding a Single Permit issued in Malta can go to state schools for free up to age 16.
Non-EU families register children with the International Learners Directorate; the MES one-stop shop can check your work permit and documents and pass the registration on. You must be in Malta so your documents can be checked. The list includes birth certificates and vaccination records, each with an English translation, and your residential property agreement; check the full list on the Directorate's website. Its induction programme, which prepares children for regular classes, usually lasts one school year and helps them with English and Maltese.
