Where registration happens — and where it doesn’t
Registration for the Pre-Departure Course takes place entirely on the official Skills Pass portal, not here. This page exists only to walk you through what the official process description says happens at each stage, so you can prepare calmly rather than encountering each step cold. Treat it as a preview of the official process — not a substitute for it, and not something this site can complete on your behalf.
The four stages the official portal describes
The official walkthrough on the Skills Pass site describes registration as a sequence of four stages:
- Choosing your applicant category. You select the option that matches your situation — for example, the portal lists a category for applicants who are “Non-EU/EEA” nationals and currently “Still Abroad”. The category you pick determines which documents the system asks you for later.
- Creating your account. The system collects your personal details, passport information, and contact information (covered in full on the documents checklist).
- Uploading documents. You submit the files the portal requests for your chosen category — described as including a copy of your passport and “any required supporting documents based on the chosen user type”. Applicants under 18 are asked for additional forms.
- Finishing account setup. You create a password and accept the portal’s terms before your account becomes active.
Two details worth knowing before you start
- The 24-hour activation window. The official walkthrough states that “accounts which are not activated within 24 hours will be automatically deleted and the candidate will be required to restart their whole process”. Build in time to complete registration — including confirming your email — without a long gap in the middle.
- Your email address is permanent. The portal describes your email as a “unique identifier on the system” that “cannot be changed, edited or updated after registration”. Use an address you expect to keep for the long term — you may need it again for the certificate and for any future correspondence.
Accuracy matters — the official process is strict about it
The official walkthrough is explicit that documents must be current: expired identity documents are described as resulting in account suspension, and submitting false information is described as leading to suspension with no refund. None of this is unusual for an official government-linked process — but it does mean it’s worth taking a few minutes before you start to confirm that your passport and any supporting documents are valid and not close to expiry, rather than discovering a problem mid-registration.
When you’re ready
Once you’ve checked your documents and set aside time to complete registration in one sitting, the official portal is where the process actually begins:

- Does this guide collect any of my personal or passport details?
- No. This page only explains, in plain language, what the official Skills Pass portal's own registration walkthrough says it will ask for. All of that information is entered directly on the official portal — never on this site. This guide does not collect identity documents, passport details, or payment information under any circumstances.
- What happens if I don't finish setting up my account quickly?
- The official walkthrough is specific on this point: accounts that are not activated within 24 hours are automatically deleted, and you would need to restart the whole process. Set aside enough uninterrupted time to complete account creation and activation in one sitting, including checking your email for the activation step.
- Can I change my email address after I register?
- According to the official walkthrough, no — the portal treats your email address as a "unique identifier on the system" that "cannot be changed, edited or updated after registration". Double-check it before you submit, since a typo could mean restarting your registration.
