The re-sit policy — one free, then unclear
Official materials describe one free re-sit for failed assessments. Beyond that first re-sit, the Pre-Departure Course materials we have reviewed do not publish explicit additional re-sit fees in the same way the Tourism & Hospitality Skills Pass does. If you have already used your free re-sit, contact Skills Pass directly — do not assume you can simply retry without checking first.
Official materials also note that no refunds are issued for failed attempts. The course fee is spent once paid, regardless of the outcome.
Failing a Phase 1 module assessment
If you do not pass one of the two online module assessments, the immediate next steps are:
- Review the module content — not skim it again, but identify specifically what the assessment was testing that you did not answer correctly, then focus your re-reading on those areas.
- Use your free re-sit. The 42-day window does not pause for failed attempts — it keeps running. Using the re-sit promptly is better than waiting.
- Check your remaining time in the 42-day window. A 14-day extension is available for €50 if needed. If you are close to the deadline after a failed assessment, the extension buys preparation and re-sit time.
Failing the Phase 2 interview
If you do not pass Phase 2, the course is not complete and no certificate is issued. The specific re-sit or re-booking process for Phase 2 is not described as clearly in official materials as the Phase 1 assessment policy. If this has happened — or you are concerned about it before your interview — contact Skills Pass directly to find out the specific options available to you rather than relying on general guidance.
What this means for your permit application
The Pre-Departure Course certificate is a requirement for the Single Permit. A failed course, or a course still in progress, means you do not yet have the certificate. Plan enough time in your overall timeline — between the course and the permit application — to absorb the possibility of needing a re-sit without your application being delayed. Starting the course earlier than strictly necessary is the most effective insurance against this.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there a limit to how many times I can re-sit?
- Official materials do not describe a hard cap on the total number of re-sits. They do describe the first re-sit as free and make no explicit statement about subsequent ones in the materials we have reviewed. If you need to re-sit more than once, contact Skills Pass directly — the answer to this question should not be guessed at from general information.
- Does failing the Phase 2 interview mean I have to redo Phase 1?
- Official materials describe Phase 1 and Phase 2 as sequential — Phase 2 follows Phase 1 completion. Whether a Phase 2 failure requires re-sitting Phase 1 or only re-taking the interview itself is not unambiguously stated in the materials we have reviewed. Contact Skills Pass directly if you have reached this stage.
- Will Identità know that I failed?
- Identità verifies the Pre-Departure Course certificate as part of the Single Permit process — they are checking whether you have a valid certificate, not tracking your resit history. A valid certificate is a valid certificate regardless of how many attempts it took.
